Company History

ACE Printing & Mailing was opened for business back in 1985. The founders were Steve Gulyas, Sr., his wife Louise Gulyas and their son Thom Gulyas. Originally, we operated out of a smaller building located at Ten South Main Street in Berlin, Maryland. It was humble beginnings, but we made it work. There was so little room that most of the equipment was on wheels for a reason. We would gather jobs and roll out the required equipment. When that job was finished, we would roll that equipment away then roll out a different piece to start the next job. It was crazy being that cramped!

In the early years, we provided services such as typesetting, printing, and mailing. It wasn’t until later on that we expanded our services to include design, digital printing, large format printing, and much more. We now offer a wide range of products and services that can meet any of our customers’ needs.

By 2003, we had outgrown the building at Ten South Main and took the leap of faith to move into the building at 10026 Old Ocean City Boulevard. We felt it was important to remain in Berlin, Maryland as we had been a part of the community for so long. The building we built was much larger and provided the space that was needed for further expansion. We doubled our staff and equipment to meet the ever-growing needs of our clients.

Further expansion into the mailing and database marketing area was our focus. We had now become a “one stop shop” for our clients. We had the ability to design, print and mail. We felt that this was the way to go so clients didn’t have to deal with multiple vendors. We wanted to make it easier for them to get their message out. We wanted to be the resource for them so they could focus on the business side of things.

In the spring of 2006, we moved into our current location in Berlin, Maryland. This building provided yet more space, bringing the total to over 5,000 square feet. We were now able to provide a full range of services that included design, print, mailing, wide format and promotional products.

Thom's leadership style was to empower employees and provide clear direction. He is a visionary and a problem solver. He is always pushing for innovation and new ideas. He is a great listener who valued everyone’s opinion and understood the importance of collaboration and teamwork. He understood the value of customer service and was always looking for ways to improve it.

Thom created a culture of excellence at ACE Printing and Mailing, where everyone was held to a high standard and encouraged to go the extra mile. He is always accessible and willing to help his team and his clients. He fostered a family-like atmosphere and treated everyone with respect.

Thom is also an excellent communicator. He is very clear in his directions and expectations and always makes sure everyone is on the same page. He is also very good at staying on top of the latest trends in the printing industry and is always looking for ways to improve our processes and services.

Overall, Thom is an outstanding leader who places his clients and employees first. He is a great example of how a leader should behave and a role model for all of us.

We have come a long way since 1985 and have established a strong presence in the community and the printing and mailing industry.
